Gigs, Tour, Vocals, all that stuff!

We suck at updates, that’s why we’re posting one bigass update right now!

So, for anybody not following us on Facebook, we’ve got a vocalist now! Joachim has been coming to our shows since we started out, and we wanted to try something new. After a couple weeks testrun we invited him to join us full-time, which is working out great so far. Expect new tracks with vocals to come out later this year or come to our shows to catch a sneak preview!

Gigswise we’ve got a bunch of stuff lined up, yeah, I’ve gotta change the header image here to reflect our newer gigs, I’m lazy like that…

07/04 – @Magasin4, Brussels Opening for Intronaut (US) + The Atlas Moth (US) + Castle (US)
13/04 – @Chaosbar, Leuven This is a 3 day festival, we’ll be playing around 7ish!
29/06 – @Club B52, Eernegem with Idealus Maximus (BE) + Wheel of Smoke (BE)

And as part of the tour we’re booking (trying to book):

22/08 – @Dunkerclub, Berlin !

So yes, we’re trying to get a tour booked, not much luck so far but we are looking into options for Germany, Netherlands, Luxemburg and possibly Denmark, we’ll keep you updated (possibly, as you know, we suck at updates).

Cheers!

Sleeping Shaman review

It’s great to get reviews, it’s even greater to get reviews that are both positive yet critical, and Ollie Stygal (frontman for the UK based band Grifter) has done this to a point on The Sleeping Shaman! We realise the production value for our first album isn’t all that, but appreciate that he was able to look beyond that and took a look at all of our songs in a step by step basis.

And yes, we will let ourselves be heard in better production and even tighter riffs!

Livingroom Gig? What?

Ok so some of you might be wondering what the hell that Livingroom Gig is all about. Well, some of our friends got it in their head to organise some live music in the living room of their shared house, we think that’s pretty awesome.

So, it’s a small location but it’ll be a hell of a party, unfortunately we can’t take all of you there (hence, on request only). If you want to be part of this, send a mail to info@pektop.be

The gig is walking distance from Leuven Station (it’s in Kessel-Lo)

Cheers,

Pektop

Gig in Kinky Star, Gent (BE)

Sooo, we’re finally going to play a gig in Gent, we’ve been looking forward to this for quite some time. The Kinky Star (Vlasmarkt 9, 9000 Gent) has kindly invited us to come play the 9th of Oktober. That’s a Tuesday evening for all of you hardworking people looking forward to an evening of heavy music!

We’ll be playing some old stuff, some new stuff, some made up stuff, you know how it goes. Doors at 9, gig at 9:30, end at 10:30. These guys are pretty strict about their hours, which we understand and appreciate (nothing is more annoying than sitting there waiting to start your gig for several hours!). The message here is, be on time ;)

In the meantime, check out some of our buddies from Gent! Rocking stoner bands ready to melt your face off:

Idealus Maximus –> playing Yellowstock this year!!
The Fur –> playing Rock Earthfield the 7th this month!!

Have a good one, peace out

Show with The Grand Astoria (Russia)!

We are very happy to be able to play with a great band from Russia, The Grand Astoria! We’ll be playing a free gig at our the Rock Café in Leuven the 13th of May, doors at 8, hope to see you all there!

They were born and raised under the
scorching sun of Russia’s South and their music first saw the light of
day in the blistering cold of St. Petersburg. They don’t want to call
their music any names but for the lack of better words are often
labeled as psychedelic stoner punk band.
Even though punk rock and metal are two major influences they enjoy
rock music in all its diversity, so when you listen to TGA’s new
record you never know what’s coming up next. It could be a metal hymn,
or a psychedelic vibe or a skillful bluesy number. It may sound crazy
but somehow all these styles and grooves come together in really a
beautiful way in TGA’s music. With their love to old-school and
willingness to experiment the band wins the hearts of fans and critics
alike all over the world. They write music, tour with it and repeat
the cycle again, succeeding in surprising their audience with the
never heard before blend of rhythms and cultures.

The members mention Hawkwind,Iron Maiden,Mudhoney, Megadeth, Faith No More and
Jimi Hendrix among their major influences. DIY ethic is the usual way
the band arranges their tours and record deals. You can easily find
their records for free across the internet. During the fall of 2010
The Grand Astoria played 40 shows across Europe in support of their
second album. Their third album named “Omnipresence” was released on
January 1, 2011. A World Tour has been announced for the whole year and the band had already played
more than 100 shows promoting “Omnipresence” album

Show with Morkobot (IT) and Papier Tigre (FR)!

We’re very happy to be able to play a show with our friends of Morkobot and with the indie rock band Papier Tigre in Magasin 4!

Venue listing:

» MORKOBOT (IT) (Spacerock / Experimental / Noise / Instrumental)

Since the dawn of the first galaxies the voice of MORKOBOT resounded solemn over the saturated atmospheres of the planets in evolution. Dominator of the magnetic strengths and ancestral regulator of the conscience flows, Morkobot has returned to the Earth through his three messengers LIN,LAN,LEN brutally subdued to his will. On our planet MORKOBOT manifests himself through sonic experimentations that humans call music. Morkobot pervades the darkened minds of LIN,LAN,LEN conducting their notes in sadistic consequential deliriums. come to feed you with the supreme verb!

» PAPIER TIGRE (FR) (Post rock / Alternative / Indie)

» PEKTOP (Drone / Stoner / Post rock)

From stoner to desert, to post-rock sludge, Pektop’s debut covers a wide gamut of genres.

Although predominantly instrumental – apart from the eerie cries of ‘Sadie’ – there is never a time when you miss the lack of vocals; such is the tightness of the Belgian’s musicianship.

Inspired by the quickening bass riff of Pulp Fiction, the opening title-track is awash with fuzzy bursts of white noise, before driving guitar grooves are lead through eerie atmospherics, in the darker caverns of ‘Drowning’. ‘Dusk’, meanwhile, continues to offset the wider swaths of darkness, thanks to slowly, tolling riffs and heavy drones. On the other hand, ‘Flame of Rhys’, which follows, adds a much-needed tempo change, to the albums only brief lull.

Hoping to avoid being “boxed into one genre”, the Leuven trio’s talent for merging big crescendos with ever-changing dynamics, is an impressive feat.

Use The Fuzz Tour!

Use The Fuzz Tour is coming to the Rock Café in Leuven on the 21st of February with

Parasol Caravan (Austria):

Parasol Caravan crank their amps up to 11 and play heavy rock with stoner and psychedelic elements. They are a dirty soundbastard between Black Stone Cherry and Kyuss with never ending groove, fat guitar riffs that have no mercy with your neck and incredible whiskey soaked vocals that get under your skin. Since the end of 2009 the four piece is rocking as many stages as possible and honoring their idols of the past without losing touch with the modern rock scene.

Cachimbo de Paz (Austria):

Thick, fuzz-drenched guitar riffs – the bass massages the solar plexus and the drums give you no other choice than to follow the groove. Cachimbo de Paz have fully and completely devoted themselves to the high art of low notes – and the fight against gravity! Stoner rock, but in this case the foundation of the music has no limits … surf-rock as well as Arabic or psychedelic elements can be found in their songs.

And ofcourse us! Pektop (BE):

Local guys Pektop have been playing since 2007 and have evolved from rough stonerrock to drone and psychedelic rock with lots of trash and doom influences. Being an instrumental threepiece suits them well as they expand their horizons and experiment with soundscapes, effects and bombastic sounds. No vocals, just tone.
